HISTORY

In 1912 due to the geographical location, elevation and the availability of the Crown Land nearby; the pioneering Marconi on behalf of the Post Office started experimental radio transmissions on the site. Leafield became a very important part of British Communications handling most of Reuter press Transmissions as well as government and maritime radio. It played an important role during both great wars. Subsequently a new radio station was built and officially opened in 1966. It was fitted with new and up to date equipment and technology, much of it automated. A management training centre followed for BT before the site was sold in 1993 to TWR becoming home to Arrows F1 team. Since that time the site has been associated with the motoracing sector and has until late been home to the Super Aguri F1 team.
